NETGEAR M4250 at a glance
The M4250 series is a range of fully managed switches for installations where audio and video travel over the IP network, as well as for ordinary office and campus networks. Administrators use them for VLANs, link aggregation, QoS, multicast control and PoE power for cameras, access points and endpoints. Management is done through the web interface, the command line or the Insight cloud platform.
The firmware is provided as an image per model family, and the notes for each release appear as individual articles in the vendor's knowledge base. The support pages build their content with JavaScript, and there is no machine-readable overview of the current release. The most reliable way to follow the update behaviour is therefore the release notes and the support portal of the specific model.
Before updating, the running configuration should be backed up. A way back to the previous state should be ready in case the update fails. When jumping across several major releases it is worth checking the recommended update path, and the restart belongs in a maintenance window because ports and PoE are briefly unavailable.
