NETGEAR Insight Access Points (WAX/WBE) at a glance
The WAX and WBE access point lines are meant for offices, schools, hospitality and outdoor areas. WAX stands for WiFi 6 and WBE for WiFi 7. Both come as ceiling, wall and outdoor devices, usually powered over PoE. They are managed either individually through the local web interface or collectively through the NETGEAR Insight cloud platform, which also distributes firmware and settings.
For each model the vendor publishes its own firmware releases with release notes in the knowledge base. The pages of the support area build their content with JavaScript, and there is no uniform version list across all models. Users of Insight are partly offered updates through the cloud, while locally managed devices have to be brought up to date by hand.
When updating, the exact model name matters because the images differ per device. The restart briefly disconnects the associated clients, so a time outside working hours is a good choice. With several devices in the same coverage area, a staggered approach helps to avoid losing coverage completely.
