PRTG Desktop at a glance

The PRTG desktop application is a standalone front end for Paessler's network monitoring. It connects to one or several independent PRTG core servers or hosted instances and consolidates their sensor data into a single view. Typical work includes reviewing alarms, assembling overview boards, and maintaining devices and sensors.

The application carries its own version number, which does not have to match the core server; the two are maintained and released separately. It ships with a built-in auto-update that can be switched off when distribution is supposed to run through your own software deployment.

Before updating, verify the supported combination of client and server build, because newer features assume a sufficiently recent core server. In managed environments it is worth disabling the built-in self-update and rolling out packages in a controlled way, so that every workstation ends up on the same build.
