RabbitMQ at a glance

RabbitMQ is a widely used open-source message broker, moving messages between services in many architectures. The project ships regular releases across supported lines plus security fixes; as infrastructure many services depend on, careful updates matter.

For admins the Erlang/OTP version underneath RabbitMQ must be compatible with the broker version — check that matrix before upgrading. Updates follow a documented path; in a cluster they roll node-by-node with attention to the order, and feature-flag compatibility across versions needs checking. The management UI and AMQP ports belong on the internal network behind authentication — an exposed broker is a risk. After upgrading, verify queues, connections and the management plugins. Take a definitions/backup first. Track the version and its support window, and don't skip too many releases.
