Tor Browser is the Tor Project's official anonymity browser, routing connections through multiple relays of the Tor network to conceal a user's IP address and location. It is built on a hardened Firefox ESR base with anti-fingerprinting measures and preconfigured security controls. In admin environments the Windows edition is used for privacy-sensitive research, testing of access restrictions, and reaching onion services.

Release cadence tracks Firefox ESR closely: there are stable versions alongside alpha builds maintained in parallel. Security-relevant updates often follow shortly after the underlying Firefox fixes and should be applied promptly to keep the browser protected.

When updating, note that the browser ships with a built-in updater that installs signature-verified downloads. In managed environments it is advisable to follow the official release announcements, since some builds are published for specific platforms (for example, Windows only). Profiles and settings are generally preserved, but a brief functional check after each update is still recommended.
