Alertmanager at a glance
Alertmanager handles alerts sent by Prometheus, deduplicating, grouping and routing them to the right receivers — a core part of the Prometheus monitoring stack. Alertmanager ships regular releases plus fixes; as the component that ensures alerts actually reach people, keeping it working matters.
For admins Alertmanager updates are usually low-risk (swap the binary/container), but its version should stay compatible with Prometheus, and larger jumps can bring configuration changes — read the notes. Its config holds receiver credentials (for email, chat, paging), so protect it. The web UI and API belong on the internal network behind a proxy. The critical operational point: after any update, test that alerts actually route and fire to their destinations — a silently broken Alertmanager means missed incidents, which is worse than a visible outage. Mind the clustering/high-availability setup if used. Track releases; patchletter surfaces new Alertmanager versions.
