AWX at a glance

AWX is the open-source upstream of Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (Ansible Tower), providing a web UI, API and scheduling for Ansible automation. AWX ships frequent releases plus security fixes; as a system that runs automation with broad, privileged reach, hardening and timely updates are essential.

For admins AWX holds credentials for and can execute automation across the whole estate, making it a very high-value target — keep it off the open internet, behind SSO with least-privilege RBAC, and protect its credential store. AWX is Kubernetes-based (via the operator), so upgrades follow that path — back up the database and configuration first, and mind version compatibility. AWX moves quickly (it's the fast-moving upstream); the supported, stable choice is the Red Hat platform. After upgrading, verify that job templates run and credentials work. Track releases; patchletter surfaces new AWX versions so security fixes aren't missed.
