Collabora Online puts a full office suite into the browser: the server renders text documents, spreadsheets and presentations on a LibreOffice code base, and several people can edit the same file at once. It is attached to a file platform such as Nextcloud, ownCloud or Alfresco through the WOPI protocol, and is most often run as a container behind a reverse proxy.

Development follows series named after the year and month of their first release. Within a series, maintenance releases arrive regularly with bug fixes and security corrections, while older series reach the end of their maintenance window. Alongside the supported edition there is a freely available development edition that ships the same code base faster but without a maintenance commitment.

When updating, the dependencies matter most: the integration app on the file platform has to match the server release, otherwise document editing simply fails. Also review reverse-proxy rules for WebSocket connections, memory and CPU headroom per concurrently open document, and the container image tag in use. A move to a new series adds fresh requirements on the package base and belongs in a test instance first.
