Docker Engine at a glance

Docker Engine is the most common container runtime on Linux servers, running countless workloads. The Docker project ships regular releases; security fixes occasionally touch the deeper components (containerd, runc), where a container-escape flaw carries real weight.

For admins Docker Engine usually comes from the distribution or Docker's repos and is updated through them. Keep an eye on critical advisories for containerd/runc and restart affected services so the fixed binaries are in use. The daemon runs as root, so restrict access to the Docker socket — anyone who can reach it effectively controls the host. For multi-container setups, use Compose V2. Verify workloads after engine updates, especially around networking and storage drivers.
