Proxmox Backup Server at a glance
Proxmox Backup Server (PBS) is an open-source, deduplicating backup solution from the Proxmox team, tightly integrated with Proxmox VE. It ships regular point updates via APT alongside the rest of the Proxmox family.
For admins the update grounds are the same as Proxmox VE: choose the enterprise or no-subscription repo deliberately and apply updates promptly. As backup infrastructure, verified restores matter more than anything — test them, and use PBS's verification jobs and pruning/retention thoughtfully. Take a config backup before larger upgrades and read the release notes. The datastore belongs on protected storage; consider immutability/off-site copies against ransomware, which targets backups. Keep the PBS version compatible with the connected Proxmox VE version.
