VMware ESXi is the bare-metal hypervisor at the heart of many enterprise virtualization stacks. Broadcom/VMware ships patch releases and update bundles per version; as the foundation running many production VMs, ESXi security advisories deserve prompt attention — several have been actively exploited.
For admins updates run host-by-host: enter maintenance mode, migrate VMs off with vMotion, patch, verify, move on. Use the version/build compatibility matrix (ESXi, vCenter, VM hardware, drivers) and apply patches through vCenter Lifecycle Manager where possible. The management interfaces belong on an isolated network, never exposed. Track the support lifecycle per version, and note that licensing and packaging changed under Broadcom — factor that into planning.
