Flux at a glance

Flux is a widely used open-source GitOps toolkit for Kubernetes, continuously reconciling cluster state from Git repositories (a CNCF project). Flux ships regular releases across its controllers plus security fixes; as a system with deploy access to clusters and access to repositories, hardening and timely updates are essential.

For admins Flux can deploy anything to the cluster and holds repository and cluster credentials, making it a high-value target — keep its access scoped with least-privilege RBAC and protect the source credentials. Updates cover several controllers that should stay in step; check compatibility with your Kubernetes version, and use the documented upgrade procedure. Flux has had security advisories, so apply security releases promptly. After upgrading, verify that sources reconcile and deployments apply. Pin versions for reproducibility. Track the release and its support window; patchletter surfaces new Flux releases so security fixes aren't missed.
