Grafana Loki is a widely used open-source log-aggregation system designed to pair with Grafana, indexing labels rather than full text for efficient log storage. Loki ships regular releases plus security fixes; as a log store often holding sensitive data, hardening and careful updates matter.

For admins Loki updates are usually straightforward (swap the binary/container), but larger jumps can bring configuration and storage-schema changes — read the upgrade notes and test first, and in a distributed deployment roll components carefully. Loki belongs on the internal network behind authentication (often via a proxy or Grafana), not exposed openly, since logs can reveal a lot. It pairs with Promtail/agents for shipping logs — keep their versions compatible. After updating, verify that logs ingest and queries return in Grafana. Back up configuration and mind object-storage retention. Track the version and its support window; patchletter surfaces new Loki releases.
