Icinga 2 is an open-source monitoring system with a powerful configuration and clustering, a modern successor in the Nagios lineage. The project ships regular releases; as a monitoring system with broad visibility and credentials, it deserves hardening and timely updates.

For admins updates usually come from the project's or the distribution's packages; the configuration and the API/cluster setup want attention on upgrades. The API and web (Icinga Web) belong behind authentication and off the open network, since Icinga holds monitored-system credentials. Check custom checks, notifications and integrations before larger jumps. After updating, verify that checks and alerting still work — silent alerting failures are dangerous. Icinga is Nagios-plugin compatible, so much of that ecosystem applies. Track the version and its support status.
