K3s at a glance

k3s is a lightweight, certified Kubernetes distribution (from Rancher/SUSE), popular for edge, IoT and homelab clusters. k3s ships releases tracking upstream Kubernetes across several channels plus security fixes; as a cluster control plane, careful updates matter.

For admins k3s follows Kubernetes' upgrade discipline: don't skip minor versions, upgrade the server before the agents, and check the deprecation/removed-API list against your manifests.
