Kimai at a glance

Kimai is an open-source, self-hosted time-tracking tool for teams, freelancers and agencies. Users record working hours per project and client through a web interface, evaluate them, and export the data for invoicing and reporting. For administrators, Kimai is a PHP/Symfony application that runs on-premises, which keeps the recorded data under the control of the organisation itself.

Kimai ships on a regular, roughly bi-weekly release cadence via GitHub. Releases combine feature changes with ongoing security and maintenance fixes; because the software handles time and, in part, cost data, applying updates promptly is worthwhile. Before updating, check the release notes for migration and database notes as well as the supported PHP version. For production use, testing in a staging environment and taking a database backup beforehand are recommended.
