Linphone at a glance
Linphone is an open-source softphone from Belledonne Communications that combines voice and video calling, instant messaging, and group and video conferencing in a single application. It relies consistently on standardised protocols such as SIP, making it interoperable with other SIP servers and endpoints. Alongside the desktop edition for Windows, macOS, and Linux, there are clients for iOS and Android as well as an SDK, so Linphone can be embedded into custom telephony and communication services. Encrypted transport is part of the feature set.
The desktop application is developed openly on GitHub, where new builds appear as versioned tags; the vendor additionally provides prebuilt installation packages. Alpha and beta builds are published ahead of stable editions and are not intended for production use. Versioning follows the Major.Minor.Patch scheme.
