mailcow is a popular open-source, Docker-based mail server suite (Postfix, Dovecot, Rspamd and a web UI), widely self-hosted. mailcow ships regular updates via its update script plus security fixes; as an internet-facing mail system, timely patching and hardening are essential.

For admins updates run through the provided update script, which pulls new container images — back up first (mailcow includes a backup script) and read the release notes for breaking changes. A mail server is a high-value, exposed target: keep TLS current, enforce strong authentication, maintain SPF/DKIM/DMARC, and watch for open-relay misconfiguration. The many bundled components each carry their own fixes, delivered together in mailcow releases. After updating, verify mail flow, the web UI and spam filtering.
