MailStore Server at a glance
MailStore Server archives email centrally and tamper-resistantly: messages are copied from Microsoft 365, Exchange, IMAP and POP3 mailboxes, groupware such as MDaemon, IceWarp or Kerio Connect and from PST or EML files into a dedicated, encrypted archive store. Administrators use it to relieve mailboxes and mail servers and to meet retention requirements, while users search through the client, an Outlook add-in or web access.
The vendor ships major releases several times a year with smaller maintenance builds in between. Access to new releases depends on an active update and support agreement; once it lapses the installation keeps running but cannot be moved to newer builds. Larger releases regularly add archiving profiles and authentication paths for Microsoft 365 and announce the retirement of older database or proxy components.
Before upgrading, back up the archive stores, configuration and certificates and stop the service in a controlled way, because the archive is migrated during the upgrade. Keep client, Outlook add-in and gateway on matching builds, then review archiving profiles, scheduled jobs and access rights.
