Mendelson AS2 is used by sysadmins and EDI administrators to exchange business documents (e.g. EDIFACT, XML, CSV) with trading partners in a secure, signed and encrypted way using the AS2 protocol. Typical use cases include connections to retail or logistics partners requiring synchronous and asynchronous MDN receipts, TLS encryption, and a built-in partner and certificate manager. The community edition shares the same core engine as the commercial version but omits vendor support and the client-server architecture.

Releases appear irregularly, usually as bundled installers (ZIP/EXE) on the project page. Changes typically include bug fixes, new language packs, UI adjustments, and security-related updates to embedded libraries (such as the bundled Jetty server). Since there is no automated update mechanism, administrators must manually download new versions from the project page and back up configuration and certificate data before upgrading.

When updating, pay particular attention to compatibility with existing partner profiles, certificates, and the database structure, since configuration files and databases reside in the same directory as the application. Before updating, a full backup of the installation directory is recommended, along with reviewing release notes for security-relevant changes.
