ONLYOFFICE Docs at a glance

ONLYOFFICE is a popular open-source office suite with strong Microsoft-format compatibility, available as desktop editors and a self-hosted Document Server that integrates with Nextcloud and others. ONLYOFFICE ships regular releases plus security fixes; the self-hosted server, in particular, warrants prompt patching.

For admins the Document Server is the security-relevant piece: it renders and processes user documents and is often reachable from collaboration platforms, so keep it current, behind TLS and authentication, and off the open internet unless deliberately hardened. Updates (Docker or packages) can bring configuration changes — back up first and read the notes. The desktop editors are lower-risk user apps but still worth keeping current for document-parsing fixes. After updating the server, verify that document editing and co-authoring work. Check the integration (connector) compatibility with your platform. Track releases; patchletter surfaces new ONLYOFFICE versions.
