Portainer is a popular web UI for managing Docker, Swarm and Kubernetes environments, widely used in homelabs and SMBs. Portainer ships regular releases across CE and Business editions plus security fixes; as a management console with deep control over container hosts, hardening is essential.

For admins the security posture is the priority: Portainer effectively controls the container host, so never expose it to the internet unprotected — put it behind authentication (and ideally SSO), on the internal network, over TLS. Updates run by replacing the container image; back up the Portainer data volume first, and mind the agent versions on managed nodes. New versions bring features and fixes.
