Scilab at a glance
Scilab is an open source environment for numerical computation, simulation and data visualisation, used on engineering, university and research workstations as an alternative to commercial computing packages. For IT it behaves like ordinary specialist desktop software that has to be packaged, deployed and kept current across Windows, macOS and Linux.
Development happens in the open in a GitLab project, and releases follow a year-based numbering scheme with occasional correction builds in between. The cadence is fairly calm; larger steps bring new functionality, toolbox adjustments and refreshed third-party libraries.
