Tuta Desktop at a glance

Tuta Desktop is the desktop application of the encrypted email service Tuta (formerly Tutanota) for Windows, macOS and Linux. It combines mailbox, calendar and contacts in a single client that stores and transmits messages and attachments with end-to-end encryption. In organisations it serves as a privacy-focused mail client that runs without advertising or tracking and is subject to European data-protection law.

The client is developed as open source alongside the other Tuta applications; new builds are published as releases in the public repository and usually bring bug fixes, security updates and functional improvements. The application generally updates itself.

When updating, administrators should keep in mind that client and server service need to stay compatible and that older builds may eventually refuse access. For package-managed installations it is worth checking the built-in update mechanism so that automatic and manual updates do not interfere with each other.
