Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows protects physical Windows systems: desktops, laptops and servers that do not run as virtual machines. It supports full image-level backups, volume-level backups and file or folder selection, writing to external drives, network shares, NAS systems or a Veeam repository. For disaster cases the agent creates bootable recovery media that restores a complete system. It runs either standalone on the endpoint or centrally managed from Veeam Backup & Replication or the Service Provider Console.

Releases largely follow the rhythm of the backup platform: a major version is succeeded by cumulative updates and patches that also add support for newer Windows builds.

The key point is alignment with the backup infrastructure, because centrally managed agents are normally deployed by the backup server and manual installations can break that management. The agent ships filter drivers, so plan for a reboot. Running jobs should be stopped beforehand, and the recovery media should be regenerated after the update so it matches the installed agent build.
