Zoiper at a glance

Zoiper is a softphone for SIP and IAX with native applications for Windows, macOS and Linux plus apps for Android and iOS. Administrators deploy it as a telephony client on workstations when a PBX or VoIP provider has to be connected and no vendor client is mandated. Encryption via TLS, SRTP and ZRTP, provisioning, address book integration and click-to-dial are typical reasons for choosing it.

The software is offered as a free edition for private use and as paid editions with additional codecs and business features. New builds appear irregularly through the vendor website; there is no public machine-readable change log, and notes are mainly found in the vendor forum.

When updating, check the licence tier, because functions such as certain codecs or provisioning are tied to the paid edition and have to be activated again after a reinstall. It is also worth testing against the phone system in use: changes to audio devices, codec order or registration behaviour only show up in operation. Back up configuration and accounts before updating.
