AVAPLAN at a glance

AVAPLAN is a German AVA package — software for tendering, awarding and billing construction work. It is used in architecture and planning offices and in public building departments to draw up bills of quantities, compare bids, check invoices and track costs across a project. Data exchange with bidders and clients runs through the GAEB file formats; depending on the licence tier, features such as electronic invoicing or extended cost-group catalogues are added.

The application is installed as a Windows program on individual workstations. The vendor generally ships one major release per year and issues maintenance updates at irregular intervals in between, bundling improvements and bug fixes. The published release history often groups several point releases into a single entry, so one step can span multiple intermediate builds.

For administrators the handling of project data and catalogues matters most: before moving to a new major release, back up project databases and confirm that the specification-text catalogues in use remain compatible. Because licence tiers unlock different functions, test the update on one workstation before rolling it out across the office.
