ecoDMS at a glance

ecoDMS is used by system administrators in small and medium-sized businesses to centrally archive documents, scans, office files, and emails in a legally compliant way. The server runs on Linux, Windows, or as a Docker container and acts as the central archive accessed by client applications, a web client, and plugins for common office software. For administrators, the server-side components, database connectivity, and compatibility between client and server versions are particularly relevant.

The vendor releases feature updates at irregular intervals, along with hotfixes and security updates as needed, all documented in the changelog. Versions are often identified by both a version number and a codename. Before updating, administrators should verify that client, server, and connected add-ons such as WORKZ remain compatible, since changes to the database schema or APIs can affect integrated systems.

When applying updates, sufficient backups should be taken beforehand, as changes to indexing, full-text search, or the database schema may involve irreversible modifications to the archive. System requirements such as the required Java version or supported operating system versions should also be checked prior to upgrading.
