macOS at a glance
macOS is Apple's desktop operating system, common in creative, development and increasingly corporate fleets. Apple ships an annual major release plus regular security updates (and Rapid Security Responses); staying on a supported version and current patch level is essential.
For admins the work is patch and lifecycle management via MDM: security updates should roll out promptly, while major upgrades warrant testing of drivers, kernel extensions and business apps. Apple typically supports the current and two prior major versions with security fixes — track that window and plan upgrades before a version falls out of coverage. Manage updates, deferrals and settings through your MDM. Native security features (Gatekeeper, XProtect, FileVault) should be enabled and managed. Keep an eye on Apple's security releases.
