Nomad at a glance

HashiCorp Nomad is a widely used workload orchestrator for containers and non-containerized applications — a simpler alternative to Kubernetes. Nomad ships regular releases; following the license change to the BUSL, it shares the HashiCorp ecosystem context, and careful updates matter as core infrastructure.

For admins Nomad runs your workloads, so upgrades are staged: upgrade servers before clients, mind the Raft protocol and autopilot, and snapshot state before starting. In a cluster, roll members to keep the quorum. Nomad's API and UI belong on a protected network with ACLs and TLS enabled — an open Nomad is a serious risk, since it can schedule arbitrary workloads. It often pairs with Consul and Vault, whose versions should stay compatible. After upgrading, verify that jobs run and the cluster is healthy. Track the version and its support window; patchletter surfaces new Nomad releases so security fixes aren't missed.
