Traefik at a glance

Traefik is a modern, cloud-native reverse proxy and load balancer with automatic service discovery, popular in container and Kubernetes environments. Traefik ships regular releases across major lines plus security fixes; as a component in the traffic path that often terminates TLS, timely patching matters.

For admins the major-version jumps are where attention is due — Traefik has changed configuration significantly between majors, so read the migration guides and test before upgrading. Updates within a line are usually low-risk. The dashboard and API must not be exposed unprotected — they reveal routing and can be abused. Traefik automates TLS (ACME) and routing, so treat its configuration and the certificate store as security-critical. After upgrading, verify routers, middlewares and certificates. Pin the image version for reproducibility and track the line's support window.
