YunoHost at a glance
YunoHost is a Debian-based server distribution for self-hosting. It packages user management, a mail server, reverse proxy, certificate handling, firewall and backup behind a web interface and a command line tool; services such as Nextcloud, wikis or websites are installed from a catalogue of packaged applications. Typical deployments are associations, small offices and home labs without a dedicated Linux team.
The project ties its main versions to Debian: a new Debian stable branch leads to a new YunoHost main version, with maintenance builds published regularly in between. Applications from the catalogue are updated separately from the system itself.
The critical part of updating is the jump between main versions, because the base operating system is upgraded at the same time — read the project's migration notes first and take a backup. Afterwards, verify mail delivery, certificate renewal and that the installed applications are still reachable. Because a YunoHost box is usually exposed directly to the internet, security updates are time-sensitive.
